Privacy

We sell the plan, not your data.

The short version, in plain words. The full policy is below, and it’s the one that counts.

Privacy policy

Effective date: October 26, 2026

Last updated: October 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how DECO Technology LLC ("DECO Technology," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the DECOHunt mobile application, the DECOHunt pages on our website, and related services (together, the "Service"). It is a notice of our practices. The DECOHunt Terms of Use ("Terms"), including their dispute resolution and arbitration provisions, apply to any dispute about privacy. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.

1. Summary

  • We collect a limited set of information to run the Service: your sign-in email, account and usage records, and the map information described in Section 2.2 when you ask the AI a question.
  • Your maps, marks, hunt log, and saved AI chats are saved on your device. If you're signed in, they're also backed up to your account on our servers, so a lost or new phone loses nothing and you can restore what you delete for 30 days (Section 2.2). If you turn on alerts, a small part of them is used to send you alerts (Section 2.2).
  • If you add trail camera photos, we store reduced copies of them in our private cloud storage, check them automatically for animals, people, and vehicles, and send small crops of the animal photos (never ones with people or vehicles) to our AI provider to read the deer in them (Section 2.2).
  • If you share a map with your hunting party, they see that map and its marks, your name and initials, and when you check into a stand. Your location goes to them only during a sit you choose to share, and is deleted after 24 hours. If you set an emergency contact, they're emailed only if you don't check out on time or you press SOS (Section 2.2).
  • Before your first AI question, the app asks your permission to send AI Requests to our AI provider, Anthropic. You can withdraw that permission at any time.
  • If you sign up for our field notes on our website, we use your email address only to send them, after you confirm, and you can unsubscribe in one click (Section 2.1).
  • We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or show ads.
  • You can delete your account in the app, or ask us to access or delete your information by emailing cmoraski@deco.technology.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account information. Your email address, used to create your account and sign you in with a one-time code or link we email you.
  • Age confirmation. Your confirmation that you are 18 or older, given when you accept the Terms.
  • Plan and access codes. Your plan (for example, free, Pro, or Friends & Family), your allowance limits, and any access code you redeem.
  • Agreement records. Which versions of the Terms, this Privacy Policy, and the agreement summary you accepted (with a fingerprint of each text), where you agreed (on first launch, when signing in, or after an update), the wording of the checkbox or sentence and button, when the agreement was shown to you and when you accepted, a random identifier for your app installation (the "Install ID"), your app version and build, device model, operating system, and language setting, and the IP address and user agent of the request. The app sends this record when you agree, whether or not you have an account, and again for each account you sign in to on that device. We keep a similar record when you give or withdraw permission for AI Requests (including which AI provider and a fingerprint of the permission text), the date you delete your account, and any arbitration opt-out you send us, including the email address you wrote from and your message.
  • Communications. If you email us, your email address and the contents of your message.
  • Newsletter. If you sign up for our field notes (our email newsletter) on our website: your email address, the page you signed up on, when we sent you the link to confirm, when you confirmed, and whether you are subscribed. We use the IP address of your request briefly to limit repeated signups and do not store it with your signup. We email you once to confirm and send the field notes only after you do.

2.2 Content you create, and AI Requests

  • Map content. Property lines, outlines, stands, blinds, routes, sightings, trail camera locations, tracks, notes, and other marks you create ("Map Content") are saved on your device and, if you're signed in, backed up to your account (see "Backup" below).
  • Backup. If you're signed in, the app copies to your account in our database: your maps (names and settings) and Map Content, your hunt log (sits, sightings, harvests, and notes), your landowner permission notes, and the AI chats you keep (your questions and the AI's answers), each with the time it was last changed. We use this only to keep your maps safe, show them on your other devices, and let you restore what you delete for 30 days. We also keep a daily copy of each map that changed that day for 30 days, so a map can be restored if something goes wrong. Where a map was last viewed and maps downloaded for offline use stay on each device. You can export everything at any time in Settings.
  • AI Requests. When you ask the AI a question, the app sends our server:
  • your question;
  • up to 100 of the marks on that map, with their coordinates, labels, and any dates and directions they include (for example, sightings and tracks), but not blood-trail marks;
  • the property outline or area you are asking about;
  • your weapon setting;
  • a weather forecast summary for that area;
  • if a plan is open, that plan, your earlier questions about it, and the AI's notes on them;
  • any description of the property the AI saved earlier; and
  • the date, day of the week, and time zone at that location.

Our server uses the area's coordinates to obtain satellite and topographic images and road and building data from Mapbox, and bare-earth elevation (LiDAR) data for the area from the U.S. Geological Survey or from our own copy of that public data, and sends all of this to our AI provider. Your question, with your last few questions, may first be processed by a smaller AI model that decides how to answer it. Together this is an "AI Request."

  • Trail camera photos. Photos are uploaded only when you choose to add them to a trail camera on a map. Before uploading, the app makes a reduced copy of each photo (about 1,024 pixels on the long side) and a thumbnail; these copies do not carry the original file's location or camera metadata. With them the app sends the time the photo was taken (read from the photo or its info strip, or set by you), the text and temperature read from the camera's info strip on your device, the image size, a fingerprint of the file used to skip duplicates, and the camera's map, location, and facing. We store the copies in a private Amazon Web Services storage bucket that is not public; the app shows them through links that expire within an hour. Our server checks each photo with an automatic detector that runs on our own server and marks it as empty, an animal, a person, or a vehicle. For empty photos we keep only the thumbnail. Animal photos taken within a few minutes of each other are grouped into a visit, and for each visit our server sends two or three crops around the animals (no more than 512 pixels on the long side) to our AI provider to read what they show (for example, a buck or doe, and how many). Photos with a person or vehicle are never sent to our AI provider and are shown only to the person who uploaded them. To describe each visit, our server sends the camera's location rounded to about 1 km and the visit's time to Open-Meteo for the weather then. On a shared map, your party can see the trail camera photos and visits on that map (except photos with a person or vehicle, and cameras set to "Only me").
  • Alerts. Alerts are off until you turn them on. If you do, the app sends our server, and we store: a push token for your device from Apple, your time zone, your alert choices (which alerts, quiet hours, and movement level), the names and start dates of any seasons you add, and, for each map with alerts, the map's name, its location rounded to about 1 km, and the names, good wind directions, and walking distance from parking of the stands you turn alerts on for. We do not store your stands' coordinates. We use this only to work out and send your alerts: our server sends the rounded location to Open-Meteo for the forecast and sends each alert through Apple Push Notification service. Alerts during a sit and harvest reminders are scheduled on your device and are not sent to our server.
  • AI answers. Answers are returned to your device and saved there and, if you're signed in, backed up with your chats as described in "Backup" above. So an answer isn't lost if you leave the app while it's being written, our server also keeps each answer in our database, piece by piece, until your device has all of it, and then deletes it (an answer your device never collects is deleted after 24 hours). Apart from that and your chats, we do not store the content of AI Requests or answers on our servers, in our databases or our logs; the imagery and map data assembled for an AI Request are never stored.
  • Shared maps (hunting party). If you share a map, we store who is in its party (account ID, role, when they joined, left, or were removed) and the invites made for it (a code, the role it gives, who made it, and when it expires). Everyone in the party sees that map, its marks (except marks set to "Only me"), and the name and initials you choose in the app (your "party name"); your email address is not shown to them. Your other maps, your hunt log, and your AI chats are not shared.
  • Check-ins. When you start a sit while signed in, the app sends our server a check-in: the map and stand, the stand's name, when you started, the "out by" time you set, whether you're sharing your location, when you checked out, and whether you pressed SOS. On a shared map your party sees your open check-ins (your party name, the stand, and those times) and gets alerts when you check in or out. On a map you haven't shared, only you and our safety check (below) use it.
  • Safety check. If you set an "out by" time and haven't checked out by then plus your grace period, our server sends you an alert asking if you're out; if you don't answer in 15 minutes, it alerts your party; 15 minutes later, it emails your emergency contact. Pressing SOS skips straight to your party and contact. The email links to a page, which works for 48 hours, showing your party name, the stand's name and location, when you went in, your "out by" time, and, if you were sharing your location, your last known position. Anyone with the link can see that page, so the link is long and random.
  • Emergency contact. If you add one in Settings → Safety, we store their name and email address and your grace period. We email them once to ask them to confirm, and email them about your hunts only after they confirm. They can stop all emails from us about this at any time; we then keep their email address only to honor that request. Add someone only with their permission.
  • Live location. Only during a sit you choose to share, on a shared map, the app sends our server your device's position about once a minute or when you move (with its accuracy and time), including while your phone is locked if you allow "Always" location in iOS (iOS shows a location indicator while it does). Your party sees your latest position and your trail since you checked in, until you end the sit or stop sharing. It stops when the sit ends, when you stop sharing, or when you sign out.
  • Please don't include other people's personal information, such as names or private details, in marks, notes, or questions.

2.3 Information collected automatically

  • Precise location. If you allow it in iOS, the app uses your device's precise location while you are using the app to show your position on the map, place marks where you stand, and record tracks you start. We do not send your device's GPS readings to our servers on their own, except for live location during a sit you choose to share (Section 2.2). However: (a) marks and tracks you save include their coordinates, and are sent to our server and our AI provider if they are part of an AI Request; (b) to show maps, weather, and place names, the app sends the coordinates of the area you are viewing or your property to Mapbox, and coordinates rounded to about 1 km to Open-Meteo and Mapbox's place-name lookup; and (c) if you ask the AI about the area on your screen, that area's coordinates are part of the AI Request. When the map is centered on you (for example, after you tap the button that shows your location), map requests and AI Requests can reveal your precise location. You can turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Device and technical information. When the app contacts our server or our providers, or you visit our website, they may receive standard technical information such as IP address, device type, operating system, app version, and request times. Our sign-in provider records sign-in times, IP addresses, and device or browser information for security.
  • Map, weather, and place-name requests. The app requests map tiles and imagery from Mapbox for the areas you view or download for offline use, weather forecasts from Open-Meteo for a location (your property's center or the area you are viewing), and the name of the nearest town from Mapbox. The Mapbox software in the app creates a random identifier on your device that Mapbox uses to count active users; we turn off the Mapbox software's optional telemetry.

2.4 Usage records

For each AI Request we record the time, the type of request, the AI model used, the amount of data processed, and its cost, linked to your account. We use these records to enforce allowances, prevent abuse, and manage costs.

2.5 Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment card details (any purchases are processed by Apple), your phone's contacts, photos (other than the trail camera photos you choose to add, Section 2.2), health data, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics software. We do not receive crash reports except those you choose to send through Apple's TestFlight or App Store tools. If you test the app through TestFlight, Apple may share with us your name and email address (if you were invited by email) and any feedback, screenshots, and device information you choose to send.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  1. provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including answering AI Requests;
  2. create and secure your account and sign you in;
  3. confirm eligibility and record your agreement to our Terms;
  4. enforce allowances, rate limits, and the Terms, and prevent fraud and abuse;
  5. communicate with you about your account, security, and changes to the Service or our policies, and send the field notes if you signed up for them;
  6. troubleshoot, debug, and improve the Service; and
  7. comply with law and protect the rights, property, and safety of you, us, and others.

We do not use your Map Content, AI Requests, or location to train AI models. Our agreement with our AI provider does not permit it to use AI Requests to train its models.

4. Artificial intelligence

The Service uses AI models from Anthropic, PBC ("Claude" models) to generate answers, plans, and suggestions ("AI Output"). We may use more than one model for a single request. Before your first AI Request, we ask your permission to send AI Requests to Anthropic. You can withdraw that permission at any time in the app; if you do, AI features stop working, and the rest of the Service keeps working. Anthropic processes AI Requests under our agreement with it and may retain them for the periods described in its own policies, which may be longer for content flagged for safety review.

AI Output is generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation. See the Terms for important limits on relying on it.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers that process information on our behalf under contracts that limit their use of it to providing services to us:
  • Supabase (accounts, sign-in, and database);
  • Anthropic, PBC (AI processing of AI Requests and of the trail camera crops described in Section 2.2); and
  • Amazon Web Services (server and website hosting, storing trail camera photos, delivering sign-in and safety emails, and keeping the field notes subscriber list and sending the field notes).
  • Providers we use under their own terms, which receive only what their service needs (mostly coordinates and technical information such as IP address) and handle it under their own privacy policies. We choose these providers because their terms and privacy policies protect this information at least as well as this Privacy Policy:
  • Mapbox (map tiles, imagery, road data, and place-name lookups);
  • Open-Meteo (weather forecasts for the coordinates you view, and past weather at a trail camera's rounded location);
  • U.S. Geological Survey (bare-earth elevation data for the area of an AI Request outside the areas we keep our own copy of); and
  • Apple (app distribution, TestFlight, purchases, and delivering alerts through Apple Push Notification service).

We do not give these providers your name, email address, or account ID, except that Apple has them when you use its services.

  • Legal and safety. When we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of DECO Technology, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this Privacy Policy or a policy at least as protective.
  • At your direction. When you choose to share something, such as sending us feedback.
  • Your hunting party and emergency contact. When you share a map, check in, share your location, or set an emergency contact, we show or send that information to the people you chose, as described in Section 2.2. They are not our service providers, and what they do with it is up to them.

6. Retention

  • Account information is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days after you delete your account, except as described below. Copies in our providers' routine backups are overwritten on their regular schedule.
  • Agreement records (acceptances of the Terms, AI permission choices, account deletion dates, and arbitration opt-outs) are kept as proof of what you agreed to for as long as your account exists and for six years after you delete it, or, for agreements made without an account, for six years after you agree. They cannot be changed after they are made.
  • Usage records are kept for up to 24 months. When you delete your account, they are separated from your account and kept only in de-identified form, and we will not try to re-identify them.
  • AI Requests and answers: apart from the chats you keep, which are backed up with your Map Content (below), we do not store their content on our servers, except that each answer is kept until your device has received all of it and then deleted, and in any case within 24 hours. Anthropic may keep them for the periods described in its own policies.
  • Server logs (such as request type, time, cost, and errors) are kept for up to 90 days. Our sign-in provider's security logs (such as sign-in times, IP addresses, and device or browser information) are kept for its standard retention period.
  • Newsletter signups are kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we don't email you again; email us to have it deleted entirely. Signups that are never confirmed get no further email, and we delete them each time we send the field notes.
  • Emails to us are kept for up to three years after our last exchange, or longer if needed for a legal claim.
  • Party records (who is in a shared map's party, and their roles) are kept while the map is shared, so marks made by people who left still show who made them; they are deleted within 30 days after the map is deleted, and yours are deleted when you delete your account. Invites are deleted 30 days after they expire.
  • Check-ins are kept for 90 days after you check out, then deleted. Live location positions are deleted 24 hours after they are sent, and right away if you stop sharing during the sit. The emergency contact's page stops working 48 hours after the email.
  • Emergency contact details are kept until you remove or change them or delete your account. The addresses of people who asked us to stop emailing them are kept so we can keep honoring that.
  • Trail camera photos are kept until you delete them or your account. Deleted photos stay in Recently deleted for 30 days so you can restore them, then are deleted from our storage. For empty photos we keep only the thumbnail. Uploads that never finish are deleted after a day. Deleting your account deletes all the trail camera photos you added.
  • Alert information (Section 2.2) is kept while alerts are on and deleted when you turn alerts off, sign out, or delete your account, or after 90 days without the app checking in.
  • Map Content, the hunt log, and saved chats stay on your device until you delete them or the app. If you're signed in, the backup in your account is kept while your account exists: things you delete are kept 30 days so you can restore them, then deleted, and daily map copies are kept 30 days. Deleting your account deletes the backup within 30 days. Deleting the app deletes them from the device, but copies may remain in iCloud or computer backups that you control.
  • We may keep information longer where required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to our size and the information we hold, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information. You are responsible for keeping your device and email account secure. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Location: turn location access on or off in iOS Settings. Live location is off unless you turn on "Share my location" for a sit; tap the sit bar to stop sharing at any time.
  • Hunting party: leave a shared map at any time in Your maps; the owner can remove members. Set a mark to "Only me" to keep it off partners' phones. Turn off party check-in alerts in Settings → Alerts.
  • Emergency contact: change or remove your contact in Settings → Safety.
  • Backup and export: export everything at any time in Settings. When you sign out, you choose whether to keep your maps on the device or remove them (they stay in your account until you delete it).
  • Alerts: turn each alert on or off in Settings → Alerts, or all of them off there or in iOS Settings. Turning alerts off in the app deletes the alert information we hold.
  • Newsletter: unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of any issue (one click), or email us. Unsubscribing from the field notes doesn't affect emails about your account or safety.
  • AI: you can use the map, your marks, and the forecast without sending any AI Requests, and you can withdraw your permission for AI Requests in the app.
  • Delete your account: in the app, go to Maps → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, the backup of your maps, and the account information we hold, as described in Section 6. You can also email cmoraski@deco.technology from your account email. Deleting your account does not delete Map Content on your device; delete the app to remove it. If you subscribe through Apple, deleting your account does not cancel your subscription; cancel it in your Apple Account settings.
  • Access and correction: email cmoraski@deco.technology from your account email to request a copy of your personal information or a correction. If you never created an account, include the Install ID shown in Maps → Account. We verify requests by confirming control of that email address and respond within 45 days, which we may extend once by 45 more days where the law allows.

8.1 U.S. state privacy rights

Some U.S. states give their residents privacy rights. Whether or not those laws apply to us, we honor these requests from any U.S. user: to know or access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, and get a portable copy. We do not sell personal information, engage in targeted advertising, or use personal information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We use your device's location only if you allow it in iOS. Coordinates you place on the map (marks, tracks, outlines, and the area you view) are sent to our map and weather providers to show maps, weather, and place names, and are sent to our AI provider only after you give permission in the app. You can withdraw either permission at any time. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the Service you request, so we do not offer a "limit the use" link. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To appeal our decision on your request, email cmoraski@deco.technology with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line within 45 days of our decision. We will respond within 45 days, which we may extend by up to 60 more days where the law allows. If we deny your appeal, you may contact your state attorney general.

8.2 Users outside the United States

The Service is intended for users in the United States. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries, including in Europe for weather requests.

9. Children and teens

The Service is for adults. You must be 18 or older, and an adult where you live, to accept the Terms or create an account, and the Service is not directed to children. Younger hunters may use the Service only on an adult's device, signed in to the adult's account, under that adult's supervision; information entered during that use is treated as the adult's information, and the adult, not the minor, should enter any questions, marks, or notes. We do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect personal information from, anyone under 18 on their own, or from any child under 13; if we learn that we have, we will delete it and close the account. A parent or guardian who believes a minor has given us information can ask us to delete it by emailing cmoraski@deco.technology.

10. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

The Service does not track users across third-party sites or apps, and our website pages do not use cookies or analytics. Because we do not sell or share personal information for advertising, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals do not change how we handle your information.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If we make a material change to how we use or share information we have already collected, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.

12. Language

This Privacy Policy is written in English. If it is translated, the English version controls.
