Articles: Which hunting apps work with your trail camera brand

onX, HuntStand, DeerLab and more, brand by brand: which apps link Reveal, SPYPOINT, Moultrie, Browning and Stealth Cam, and how to get photos in when none do.

If you run cameras from more than one brand, you've probably ended up with one app per brand. We looked at every hunting map app and camera app we could find in October 2026 to see which ones link which cameras.

The short answer

  • No camera maker has a public way for other apps to get your photos. Every link that exists is a private deal between the camera maker and one app.
  • No app links all of the big three. onX links Moultrie, Bushnell, Browning, Covert and Spartan, but not Tactacam Reveal, SPYPOINT or Stealth Cam. Reveal's app has the most App Store ratings of any camera app we found, about 171,000.
  • Cellular photos lose their time stamp. DeerLab says 99% of cellular camera makers strip the data stored inside the photo (Spartan is the exception). The time, temperature and moon are only in the strip printed across the bottom of the picture, or on the original on the SD card.

Getting photos out of each brand

When no app links your brand, you can still get the photos out of the camera's own app.

  • Pull the SD card when you can. The originals keep the full-size photo and its time. Cellular copies are smaller, and some brands charge for full size.
  • Check the strip along the bottom. Every brand prints the date, time and temperature there, and most add the moon. Browning also prints the barometric pressure. If an app reads that strip, it can get the time back from a cellular photo.
  • Don't hand over your camera password. Some apps get photos by signing in to your camera account for you. The SPYPOINT, Tactacam, Moultrie and Stealth Cam terms all ban that kind of automated access, and it means another company holding your password.

What hunters still do by hand

The same wishes came up again and again in reviews, forums and hunting media, and no app we found does them:

  • one place for every brand,
  • following one buck across photos, cameras and seasons on its own (MeatEater's Wired To Hunt keeps a spreadsheet per buck instead: date, time, place, temperature, wind, pressure and moon),
  • which way the deer was headed, to work back to bedding and food.

Seeing which winds and weather bring deer past is out there, but usually on a top plan or only on a computer: onX's camera analysis is on Elite and on the web only, and DeerLab's reports by wind, moon and temperature need you to upload every photo yourself.

How DECOHunt does it

DECOHunt doesn't depend on any of these deals. Share photos from the Reveal, SPYPOINT, Moultrie, Command or Browning app, pick them from Photos, or open the SD card in Files, and the app reads the time and temperature off the strip. Photos minutes apart become one visit, empty frames and squirrels get filed away, and each visit gets the deer (buck, doe or fawn, points, which way it's facing), the wind and weather at that hour, and the rut phase. You can name a buck and see every camera he's been on. We never ask for your password to another company. See how trail cameras work in DECOHunt.
